The WEFE Community of Practice (CoP)

The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus is a vital concept that highlights the intricate interconnections between water, energy, food, and ecosystems. Recognizing these links is crucial for achieving sustainable and integrated resource management. INWRDAM’s WEFE Nexus Community of Practice (CoP) is a distinguished forum composed of high-level officials from member countries. These officials meet regularly to discuss, advise, advocate, and exchange knowledge and experiences related to the WEFE Nexus approach.

Our CoP was launched during the 33rd Intergovernmental Assembly for OIC member states in 2021 (Resolution 33/2.A), and it stands as a cornerstone of INWRDAM's Water Diplomacy and Regional Dialogue program. The CoP is dedicated to fostering cooperation across the MENA region and OIC member states, with a strong emphasis on sustainable water management. Through regular engagements, members of the CoP work collaboratively to integrate policies and practices across these interconnected sectors, providing strategic guidance and supporting evidence-based policymaking.

The activities of our CoP go beyond mere discussions. They are focused on developing innovative solutions in critical areas such as integrated water resources management, drought management, and cross-sectoral collaboration. By facilitating high-level dialogue and fostering a culture of cooperation, the CoP ensures that best practices are shared and adapted to the unique contexts of member countries, driving progress in sustainable resource management.

To support the CoP’s initiatives, INWRDAM established the WEFE Nexus Hub in 2024 under the UfM Program of “WEFE Hub for MENA,” funded by SIDA. This Hub serves as a resource center, providing members with access to cutting-edge knowledge and tools that enhance their work within the CoP.

For more detailed information on our WEFE Community of Practice and how it contributes to sustainable resource management in the region, explore our dedicated CoP page.
