In close collaboration between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and INWRDAM, two workshops were held on April 22, 2024, at the Nile Water Sector headquarters in Nasr City. The first workshop, titled "Training Needs Assessment," aimed to identify competencies, training needs, and training priorities related to the WEFE Nexus approach. The second workshop, titled "Uses & Users of WEFE Hub," aimed to introduce the WEFE Nexus Hub launched by INWRDAM and identify Egyptian uses and users related to the hub. Representatives from the National Water Research Center, ministries, and relevant entities (Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University, Desert Research Center, Center For Environment & Development For The Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE)) participated in the workshops. Effective discussions took place, resulting in some recommendations regarding training areas within the ministry and the uses and users of the WEFE Nexus Hub.
"In a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and INWRDAM, two pivotal workshops were conducted on April 22, 2024, at the Nile Water Sector headquarters in Nasr City. These workshops aimed to enhance the understanding and application of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus approach within Egypt's key sectors. The first workshop, titled "Training Needs Assessment," focused on identifying the competencies and training needs required to implement the WEFE Nexus approach effectively. Through thorough discussions, participants explored the skills gaps and prioritized the training areas that would support the Ministry’s staff in applying integrated resource management practices. The second workshop, "Uses & Users of WEFE Hub," introduced the WEFE Nexus Hub recently launched by INWRDAM. Participants learned about the Hub’s features and its potential to serve as a regional platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration. The discussions also focused on identifying Egyptian stakeholders, users, and sectors that could benefit from the Hub’s resources and tools, ensuring its optimal use across ministries and organizations. Representatives from various institutions, including the National Water Research Center, Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University, Desert Research Center, and the Center for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE), attended the workshops. They contributed to in-depth discussions that led to several recommendations on both training priorities within the Ministry and the potential uses and users of the WEFE Nexus Hub. These workshops mark a significant step in strengthening Egypt’s capacity to address the interconnected challenges of water, energy, food, and ecosystems, paving the way for enhanced cooperation and sustainable development within the WEFE framework.
