INWRDAM recently held the steering committee meeting for the "WEFE Nexus Hub for MENA," a key milestone in advancing regional collaboration on water, energy, food, and ecosystem (WEFE) integration across the Middle East and North Africa. The meeting was attended by high-level governmental representatives from Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), who gathered to review the progress of the project and discuss its future direction. During the discussions, participants provided insightful feedback and shared their perspectives on fostering regional cooperation. Key recommendations focused on expanding cross-border initiatives, enhancing data-sharing mechanisms, and identifying new activities to strengthen the Hub’s impact across the region. Emphasis was placed on the importance of developing joint projects that leverage the WEFE Nexus approach to address common challenges such as water scarcity, energy access, food security, and ecosystem preservation. The steering committee expressed its commitment to enhancing collaboration between the countries involved, ensuring that the Hub becomes a platform for shared knowledge, innovation, and sustainable solutions. This meeting marks a significant step forward in realizing the WEFE Nexus Hub's vision of promoting regional resilience and sustainable development. INWRDAM is pleased to announce a productive and forward-thinking discussion with our esteemed partners from the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) and the Municipal Services and Social Resilience Project (MSSRP). The meeting focused on incorporating health and decent work conditions into the design of pilot projects currently being implemented under the WEFE Nexus Project. This important inclusion follows recommendations made during the third high-level meeting for the WEFE MENA Community of Practitioners (CoP) hosted by INWRDAM. The goal is to create pilot projects that not only address water, energy, food, and ecosystem (WEFE) challenges but also prioritize the health and well-being of workers, especially women in agriculture, and ensure fair working conditions across all sites. Our discussion led to the development of innovative strategies to improve health standards and promote decent work practices within the project framework. By integrating these aspects, we aim to set an example for future WEFE Nexus projects across the MENA region. We are excited about this strong and collaborative partnership with NARC and MSSRP and look forward to implementing these enhanced pilots as models for future projects. Together, we are paving the way for sustainable and equitable development that benefits both people and the environment. Pics are shared through the link
