Empowering the Next Generation with Water Conservation Education

In 2024, INWRDAM launched a pivotal awareness campaign across schools in Jordan, supported by the Netherlands Embassy in Amman and the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD). This initiative targeted youth, emphasizing the critical importance of water conservation and sustainable usage. Engaging over 362 students, including 84 students with special needs, from six governorates—Amman, Jerash, Madaba, Tafila, Zarqa, and Irbid—75% of whom were female, the campaign highlighted inclusivity and gender balance.

These  planned dialogue sessions aimed to broaden students' understanding of water resources. Initially, many students associated water harvesting solely with collecting rainwater from roofs for household uses. The program expanded their horizons by introducing various water harvesting techniques and their applications in agriculture, drinking, industry, and domestic use. Students actively participated in discussions on water conservation within their schools and communities. They examined the feasibility of implementing water harvesting techniques at home and in school gardens, promoting practical, hands-on learning experiences. These activities not only educated students on sustainable practices but also empowered them to become proactive stewards of the environment.

The campaign's success lies in its comprehensive approach, combining education with practical application. By fostering a deeper understanding of water conservation, INWRDAM's initiative has equipped the younger generation with the knowledge and tools necessary to make a meaningful impact on their communities. This initiative underscores INWRDAM's commitment to sustainability and its proactive role in environmental education, ensuring that the principles of water conservation and sustainability are deeply ingrained in the next generation.

Executed in collaboration with local partners and supported by international donors, this campaign reflects a successful model of how cross-sector partnerships can drive impactful community education. It stands as a testament to INWRDAM's mission to promote sustainable water management practices and highlights the organization's role in shaping a more sustainable future for Jordan and beyond.
